Ave Maria Purissimo! December 31, 2011

Filed under: Travel — Eleanor @ 5:34 am

Yesterday we spent a last day in Toldeo.  Over eight hours walking up and down the tiny alleys and streets.  We saw multiple beautiful churches, mosques, synagoges and convents.  We especially sought out the convents, looking for tiny signs advertising marzipan atenesano, where we rang bells and waited for the nun to appear, or in one case, just hear her voice.  We exchanged money through a turnstile and received our marzipan.  It was very cool, mysterious and holy!  Dinner last night at a hotel overlooking the city and now we are at the Madrid Airport, waiting for our return flight.  What a wonderful week!  More pictures later!
