- Very happy today to wake up and realize it was Saturday.
- Today is November 21 and a very special day for all the world, but especially those with Cute Overload Page a day calendars. Violet and Kevin are today!!!!
- There might be some sewing today. Thought I would make a batch of Java Jumpers, or coffee sleeves, or whatever you want to call them, for the holiday season at Stelmos. Not putting the pocket on it this year. Too much extra work.
- Chris, Melissa and Michael arrive tomorrow. Pretty exciting!
- Paul and I went to see 1984 at school last night and it was quite good. I am always so impressed with what the kids do, especially in those black box productions.

- Hi Chrissie! I see you peeking in from Rome over there on the side bar.
- It’s 1:28am and I am done with the roster and thank you notes and putting files on the jump drive for the Altar Guild Brunch tomorrow. The key lanyard is in the wash, so the only thing left on my list is “remarks” and I am not sure what I am going to say, but let’s hope the Lord hits me with something coherent, say around 8am tomorrow, while I am having my coffee.
- Went to see a good student (high school and college) performance of King Lear tonight. Creative staging and they really knew their dialoge – meaning not just memorization.
- Did I mention that I got promoted to Turtle Level 2 at the gym and it like ta killed me? I think I might have.
- Melissa (sister-in-law) surprised Michael (nephew) with a surprise visit. I picked her up at the airport, and she snuck into his room where he had just gone to bed. He was super excited to see her! It was great!

- “And the devil will drag you under, by the sharp lapels of your checkered coat, sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down sit down you’re rockin’ the boat!” (Watching the tony’s tonight, reminded how fun musicals are. That’s from guys and dolls for those who are playing the home game.)
- Had a lovely family birthday dinner saturday at the sushi place and we got the sushi boat! Hooray! That is a wooden boat about 2 feet long filled with delicious sushi and sashimi. Tip, before the sushi boat, don’t fill up on bread. I don’t know if I will have any particular observances tomorrow. Just the usual 21 gun salute maybe.
- I went car shopping this weekend. All due respect to the red menace, but that car’s time is DONE. The engine hitches if it gets about 50 mph, and it has been raining like crazy around here and I have been scrambling to find rides or drive in the breaks in the rain since the windshield wipers went dead. I know I could have it fixed, but that seems a waste of money since the grim reaper is banging on the windshield. So I test drove the Honda Fit and the Hyundai Elantra and the Elantra touring (which is kind of a code word for “station wagon.” I was really focusing on the fit, but I was so impressed with the test drive on the elantra that I think that is the way to go, and mama may just have a little wagon to drive around right soon.
- I started working out with a trainer on Friday, and go again tomorrow For the time being, until his personality is revealed, we shall refer to him as “Captain Asskick.”
- Two weeks left of school!

- Another pretty good show last night. Nice crowd. I saw a couple kids I would have liked to talk to after, but it was hectic. I wish there wasn’t a matinee today. I am old, and need my rest. Also, can’t imagine what kind of spazzing will be going on as they race about the building between the two shows! I’ve got some papers to grade, but that sounds pretty boring, really. Yesterday I went and had a nice sit on the porch at starbucks. Maybe I’ll do that again.
- My entourage came, mom, dad, Paul, AB and her mom, C and D. That was very nice.
- We tried the wig thing, and I don’t know how it looked, but there were a lot of laughs and I know the kid who did it really enjoyed it. He kind of jammed it back on my head kind of crooked, but that made it even funnier.
- I don’t know when it happened, but Prison Break snuck back on the air, on a new night, and last night was there series finale. What? I missed about 5 episodes I think. Thank goodness for the internet where these things can be caught up on. I need to do that show, Lost, and Heroes. All these other activities are really interfering with my TV time!
- Ali and I follow this blog, Adan and Lego. Today in Taiwan, Michico and Arion are getting married, and I am absolutely excited about it! I’ve been watching the countdown for weeks! She seems like a sweet, kind of crazy artistic person, who loves her two cats so much, that they will have cardboard cutouts of them at the wedding. That is a level of obsession I can totally respect!

- Must continue to think about risk. Why am I so easily distracted? How can you find anything new if you are buried in the pile of the everyday?
- Play practices are fun, hectic. More time than I have available I think.
- Testing looms at school. Paralyzed by what to choose to teach in the short time remaining.
- Paul and I have a little unspoken contest of who will turn on the AC first. Pretty warm out today, and he didn’t break. Impressive. I am wavering. It gets warmer upstairs, so I am at a disadvantage.
- We went to see a play last night, See what I wanna See at signature. Weird, but entertaining overall and very enjoyable to be out and seeing something new and different. Other activities this weeked were the annual PreDerby party with AB. She has a very good hat, and hoped to win the contest, but another woman was clearly motivated and had a sidekick who was also well hatted and they were combining tickets. AB took her second place finish well, mostly since we spotted a presumtuous latecomer in a yellow hat, and we since felt her attempt to rise to power was not acceptable, and formulated some strategies (body tackles) should they be needed. Yes, Yellow hats loss was win enough.

- Hey! On the Feedjit on the sidebar there is a visitor from Kabul! Afghanistan! (Thanks for pointing that out Chrissie!) Is that my big brother? HI!!!!! HI!!!! Hi Chris!!! ::waving frantically:: Miss you! Did the government unblock my subersive thoughts? I bought you a book for your birthday! Actually going to mail it soon! Hi!!!! Love you!
- And um, if it is someone else from Afghanistan, um, hello. Nice to meet you!
- Oh and leave a comment!
- Saw Little Dog Laughed at the Signature tonight. Very good. Commander Dave from the coffee shop came with me. It was very good, and gave me alot to think about. I am looking forward to a good discussion on Friday after Paul sees it. He is going with another coffee shop friend.
- I think I am going to go to the Thursday meeting for the Tanzania mission trip. I thought I was interested, then I wasn’t, then I was a little, and today, when we were doign our Africa map activity, I said randomly to a kid, “I really want to go to Lake Victoria, and I looked down at the map to see what country it was in, and one of them….was Tanzania. SO at the very least, I think I ought to go to the meeting!
- Hi again Chris! ::wave, wave::
February 21, 2009
- It’s all the chair’s fault. I come home, eat something, and and fall asleep in the chair. I wake up feeling very thirsty, think how much I would like something to drink, then fall back asleep in the chair. It’s the saddest thing ever.
- On the plus side, I got a part in the school play, and I think this could be great fun. There is a Queen Eleanor, and the drama teacher wants me to play it. I think this will be a great chance to connect with the kids in a new way. And I get to yell “off with his head” and grab people by their ears, which is pretty much what I would like to do in the halls anyway. The drama teacher has also asked me to take a group of about 20 and come up with some sort of song and dance number to open the show. This could also be great fun.
- On the other hand AM I CRAZY? I can’t even stay awake and ahead of my work now, and Lent hasn’t even begun! I keep visualizing my migraine medicine. “OK, when the flashing lights start, go to your purse, open the blue box and get the little pill…” I mean this can all be very fun, in fact it should all be fun, Altar Guild, school, plays, etc, but it is the all happening at once part that I find overwhelming. And the fact that I come home intending to write emails and update my calendar, but instead I fall asleep in the big chair while watching the show “Supernanny” definitely complicates things.
- I have all the pieces for a wonderful fun life, so why does my head hurt and my shoulders feel all tense? What is my major malfunction?
- I saw Les Miserables again. That show is like crack. I even stopped by on my way home this evening, and asked if they had any more tickets for tomorrow’s matinee. I managed to walk away, knowing I shouldn’t spend another big chunk of money, but it was a near thing for a minute there. I saw that show on Broadway years ago, and wasn’t at all impressed, but this production has made me see the light. It is just such a great staging and very simply just a good time. Even inspiring at the end when they sing : Somewhere beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see? I am just not sure if this means I should go sing in musicals, or help the poor. Hmmm. How to do both?

- Yesterday I met my student teacher. She seems nice. We were both nervous. It was the end of the day, and I don’t make much sense then anyway, but she didn’t run away screaming. (That I know of. I didn’t see her in the parking lot.)
- Paul and I went to see 12th Night last night. I enjoyed it. I really like going to the theater. I wish I had season tickets for the Shakespeare Theater, maybe Signature too.
- When we were walking from the parking garage to the theater, all of the sudden there were police cars blocking the cross streets, then black Suburbans a press bus and two ambulances zipping by. Hello! Hello Mr. President Elect! Hello!
- He also sent me a nice commemorative Inaugural invitation AND invited me to all the public events. That guy is so thoughtful!
- A successful Altar Guild brunch today, and now I wear the official keys of Altar guild President. It was a nice brunch. I formulated some remarks that were well recieved that I will publish tomorrow.
